Feeling Anxious?

For the past week, I have felt a low level of anxiety in my body.  After having a medical procedure done at Mayo and coming back home, my body has not bounced back like I had hoped (or as fast as I would have liked with all the drugs).  On top of that. I have a family member who has a drinking problem and it is reminding me of my alcoholic mother, stirring up all kinds of muck.  Add to that more work and a certification exam in the next week and I have another perfect storm for anxiety to manifest.

So what have I been doing to counteract the anxiety?

1.  Talk to my close supporters, family and friends.  It really does help just to talk about it with people who care about me.

2.  Do more meditation, and by that I just mean taking some time throughout the day just to do some deep breathing when thoughts seem to overwhelm me.

3.  I pray.  Just have a conversation with Jesus – take it all to Him and ask for help.

4.  Read scripture.  Here is my “go to” in this situation:

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.  Phil. 4:6-7

I rely on this promise every day.  You can, too.

Dear Lord, thank for you offering peace and comfort when I am feeling anxious.  Thank you for always hearing my prayers and petitions.  Thank you for walking with me on this road that gets mighty rocky sometimes.  You are awesome!  Amen.
