How To Approach Weight Gain During The Pandemic

I was in for a shock!  I was putting on some of my jeans for a fall-looking photo shoot and guess what?  I could barely pull them up!

Had my body changed that much in 6 months?  I haven’t worn jeans for months, because of self-isolating and then because of the heat here in Florida, but……

Thank goodness they were my dark rinse Spanx jeans, because I was able to finally pull them up and they did suck me in 😉.  But they were tight.

No getting around it.  I had been weighing myself regularly, as I do, and I knew that I had gained a few pounds, but…..I was not prepared for the shock of what I saw in the mirror.

At that point, I had two choices.  I could berate myself with the “How could you allow this to happen,” “You knew you were eating too many chips which are not on your plan,” to “Your thighs look so big!” or

I could look at this situation with curiosity and compassion.

Curiosity by looking at where I had deviated off my usual eating plan and why I had done it.  Lots of thoughts and situations came up which shined some light on the big Why this had happened.

Compassion in that this has been a rough 5 months.  Wouldn’t you agree?  The stress and worry of the pandemic has thrown our lives out of whack big time.  Working from home, managing kids, and trying to keep ourselves and family safe and healthy has taken its toll.

Stress, worry, anxiety, and depression often lead to overeating, over-snacking and binge eating.  Overeating leads to weight gain.

The opportunity that you (if you’ve gained some) and I have is to make a fresh start.  Knowledge is power.

Now that I know the reality, I can recommit to getting back to eating the way it makes my body feel energetic and strong.  It’s more productive to approach this weight gain with curiosity and compassion, rather than vitriol and condemnation.

Will you join me in recommitting to taking care of our bodies to be at a weight where we feel Really Good?

This is what I do with my clients.  I help them learn to be kind to their bodies and feed themselves with fuel that will maximize their energy and make them Feel Good.  If they want to lose some pounds, I know just how to do that.

Here is a comment from one of my clients,

“Being a client of Jane’s has certainly been a rewarding experience for me. Jane introduced me to a new approach to weight loss that has been easy and effective, one that I have adopted as a lifestyle change.  Not only was Jane motivating and a good listener, she helped me reconstruct some of my negative thoughts about weight loss into positive results. I would highly recommend Jane as your Life Coach. She has all the right tools to help you become successful, too!”  Nancy B.
