Top 5 Excuses for Not Losing Weight & How to Overcome Them

OK, I know there are a lot more than five excuses for not losing weight.  But these are the five I hear most from my clients.  Here we go:

  1.  It’s too hard.  Yes, this is number 1 and it encompasses a bunch of excuses, but fundamentally people don’t like to do what’s hard.  They may have to let go of favorite foods, desserts or drinks.  Then we may have to deal with emotions and circumstances that the food and drink buffered them from.  It will involve time and energy.  We may have to experience – wait for it – some real hunger.  And it involves personal commitment which can be extremely challenging.
  2. I don’t have time.  Yes, this falls under #1, too, but in our busy lives this comes up a lot.  The prospect of planning, shopping and preparation of the food seems too overwhelming. Add that to our daily to-do list and it goes to the bottom of the priority list.  It’s easy to justify – our job, kids and activities are more important.  It’s easy to say I’ll start next week when I’m not so busy.
  3. I have too much to lose – it’s overwhelming.  Where do I start?  How do I get going?  How can I do it with so much to lose?  It’s just too much to think about!
  4. I hate to count and measure my food! All the points and measuring are too much for me.  It’s boring, cumbersome and it’s a pain.
  5. It’s too expensive.  Buying fresh, whole food is way more expensive than buying easy processed food.  Or so you say.

The good news is all these excuses can be overcome.  But it takes effort, commitment and desire to make real changes to get real results.  That’s the bottom line.  That goes back to you finding your compelling reason or your WHY do I want to lose weight.  I talk more about this in this blog post.
