Do You Have a Food Kryptonite That Trips Up Your Weight Loss?

Is there a certain food that, when you think about changing the way you eat, is a food Kryptonite?  A food that makes you weaken your resolve and indecisive when you think about “giving it up?”

Maybe it’s MacDonald’s french fries?  Or Dairy Queen ice cream cones? Or kettle chips? Or a Mocha Frappucchino from Starbucks?  Is one of those or some other food your Kryptonite?

When you think about it or see it, can you feel the resistance building up?  You say to yourself, “But that’s my one indulgence and it makes me feel good.”  You feel yourself weakening…”Why do I have to give it up?”

When I was trying to lose weight and get out of the prediabetic zone, I was doing pretty well with no sugar, flour or snacking.  But there was one food that I did not want to let go of.  Peanut butter!  I even used the kind that was just peanuts.  But I wanted a little before my regular breakfast-with a bit of coconut butter.  Just a little treat to start the day.  Yum!

The problem was, my weight loss had stalled.  I couldn’t figure out what the problem was.  I had hired a weight loss coach to help me lose those extra pounds and I was sending her my food journal every day – so the peanut butter was right there.  She suggested very strongly that I quit the peanut butter.  Nuts (even a legume) do have carbohydrates, protein and fat in them and are very calorie dense.  Just that one thing could be keeping me stuck.

But, oh, how I resisted.  “But it’s healthy for you, and it’s not sugar or flour,” I said.  It was my Kryptonite.

Her next statement to me really got my attention.

“Are you really ALL IN on wanting to lose the weight or not?  Or do you want to waffle around, make excuses and stay stuck at the weight you are at?”

She got me there!  But it was just what I needed to hear to get me motivated again and change the way I was thinking about the peanut butter.  I am a very determined person most of the time and I needed that kick in the butt to stay away from that Kryptonite.

And I did finish losing the.weight.  I just kept reminding myself, are you all in, Jane?

What about you?  What if you knew that your food Kryptonite was keeping you from losing that 5-10-15 pounds that keeps hanging on?  Can you recognize that you aren’t ALL IN?  That you are just making excuses?

I want you examine your own thoughts and give this some serious consideration.  I’d love to hear what food Kryptonite you have been dealing with and your plan to change things.

Let’s get on a call and talk about your weight loss challenges, come up with some ideas and see if working with me might give you that motivation and accountability you’ve needed.  And lose that 10 pounds or so….send me an email at jane@janespringer.com and I will get right back to you to set up a time to have your strategy call.

Bye for now,
