I know that I have heard and read this passage many times, but today it really got me to thinking…
Jesus said to His disciples: “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and decay destroy, and thieves break in and steal. But store up treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor decay destroys, nor thieves break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be.” Matthew 6:19-21
What treasures am I storing up here on earth – stuff…..nice clothes, shoes, jewelry, books, etc. What treasures am I storing up in heaven – my love for Jesus, my family and friends and animals, caring for others, sharing my love of God. I certainly could be doing less of one and more of the other.
Dear Lord,
Help me to keep my eyes fixed on you and what is important and lasting and not on what is temporary and of little eternal value in this world. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
