The Truth About the Spirit of Fear

The Truth about the Spirit of Fear

I think I can safely say that many of us are having periods of feeling fear and uncertainty right now about the corona virus.  It’s understandable and it’s human.

We are human and our human brains are built to let us know when there is possible danger around.  Our brains are saying, “Run!  Find food!  Escape!  You are in danger!”

I can help you learn to manage your brain – that is what I do as a life coach.

But first, there is a very important Truth here that outweighs anything your primitive brain is trying to tell you.  And that is:

“for God did not give us a Spirit of fear and timidity, but one of power and love and self-control.”  2 Timothy 1:7

When I woke up this morning, the Holy Spirit brought that verse to my mind first thing.  I wanted to share it with you, because it is helping me tamp down my own fears.

Yes, things seem scary right now.  But we have God’s power, love and self-control working in us!

We have the power to do what we can to stay healthy and help others stay healthy, especially the vulnerable.  Make smart decisions not based on fear, scarcity and emotion.  God has our back.

We have love to give ourselves and share with others in this uncertain time.  Do what you can to keep yourself healthy by making loving and nutritious choices.  Don’t use fear for an excuse to overeat and eat foods that don’t serve you.

I put myself in this category.  So many times this week I have been tempted to make GF chocolate chip cookies, even though I know the sugar in them will cause inflammation in my already vulnerable and compromised body.  Be smart and loving to yourself.

What can you do to love others?  With your family, make healthy meals.  Spend time together playing games or being outside.  Fresh air is the best thing the experts are recommending right now.  I’s an opportunity to re-connect.

Limit media exposure!  It only heightens the fear.

Think of loving choices you can make for others who may be more vulnerable.

And lastly, you have God’s spirit of self-control which is beyond any power man has on his own.  Like I’ve said before, make smart and loving choices with your activities and how you fuel your body.

We can get through this without living in fear.  God’s got us in the palm of His hand (Isaiah 49:16).  Promise!
